One of our clients has instructed us to offer for sale this street barrel piano. The piano was previously restored by us approximately twenty five years ago and it was used as part of a private house collection, but has not been used for some years. Since then it has been kept in dry storage so it will require some re-commissioning to bring back in to fist class condition.
This piano was originally built as a clockwork café piano then later converted to a street piano probably by the East Anglian Automatic Piano Company (A.O Wintle).
It is believed that this piano may have been manufactured for Keith Prowse & Co by Gavioli, as the style of build is very similar to Gavioli pianos of the period. Keith Prowse & Co were hiring agents who sold and hired penny in the slot barrel pianos to pubs or cafes.
The piano looks very aesthetically pleasing and would make an excellent exhibit for a museum or private collection; it could even be used on the streets again should a suitable cart be purchased to move it around.
The Tunes listed on the tune sheet are as follows: - You'll hear Me Callin Yoo Hoo, Caravan, Tippy Canoe, Dapper Dan, If Winter Comes, Jealous of You, A Skip and a Jump Will Do, Hello, Old What's a Name, My Sweet Hortouse.
As the barrel piano has been in store and the owner is looking to dispose of this part of his collection, we are looking for offers. Please telephone us to discuss should you be interested, all offers will be considered.
This barrel piano could be of interest to somebody looking to take their first steps in to collecting mechanical musical instruments or a museum looking for other exhibits. Why not contact us today to discuss the purchase of this piano.
